The DAILY CREATIVE CHALLENGE: Adobe Illustrator
An Adobe promoted 9-day event encouraging artists of all levels to challenge
themselves to create art based on a daily theme to advance their skill set.

DAY 1: FAST FOOD
The challenge: Create an illustration based on "Fast Food".
I challenged myself with a cyclist speeding through a refueling station. Bicycles are a drawing hurdle for me and this was a good opportunity to give it a try again. I opted for reds/yellows to support the fast food connotation, but really liked the pop of blue for contrast and to lighten it up a bit.

DAY 2: ANIMAL COMPANION
The challenge: Create an illustration based on "Animal Companions" using simple shapes.
I chose the meerkat for its reputation of protecting other members in the community, standing sentry. Also, the meerkat has those large round geometric eyes. Working with frontal view and profile view was a fun exercise in distorting shapes. I don't often illustrate animals and this was fun to explore.
DAY 3: SPORT ICON
The challenge: Design an icon of your favorite sport.
Tennis narrowly beats out basketball as my favorite sport, tough choice. The classic crossed rackets with the tennis ball insignia. Opted for fresh colors but subdued the saturation as a nod to the heritage of the sport. I don't often get to do icons, it's work to keep them so simple and clean.
DAY 4: CAMPING
The challenge: Illustrate a camping must-have using simple shapes.
Percolator coffee. Must have. I chose the speckled enamel finish to utilize the basic circle shape in a random arrangement. Also used Distort and Effect curved zig zag for the steam. While the shape of the maker is not simplified geometry, it does use several basic shapes to achieve dimension and layering.
DAY 5: FRUIT
The challenge: Design your favorite fruit using simple tools.
Coconuts, a Top 5 fruit. I chose triangulation to convey the form and density of the fruit, then carried that approach out in the other elements. I used curvature in the fronds to add softness and reinforce the beach-y vibes. This was a good exercise in tangent awareness.
DAY 6: CITYSCAPE
The challenge: Show us your favorite city by designing a simple skyline
Reykjavik, Iceland is a beautiful, moody city. The archetecture is rich in charm and simplicity. Iceland has quaint neighborhoods, and any of them make for a lovely cityscape, I opted for the buildings along Tjörnin Lake which provided many layers and interesting detail. The challenge was in finding how much or how little to depict, and also, in conveying a sense of feeling of a particular place.
DAY 7: UNDERWATER
The challenge: Create an aquatic illustration
Bird diving underwater in search of food. Using lines and regions to create depth and movement. I wasn't sure how I wanted to handle the surface of the water from this perspective, I approached it by simplifying the ripple and using color to create reflections off the fur. I like the pops of neon that started to arise.
DAY 8: MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
The challenge: Create your favorite musical instrument
TUBA. More Tuba! Used the variable stroke width to adjust the circumference of the pipes. This one is sticker-ready.
DAY 9: SELFIE
The challenge: Create a selfie using simple shapes
Circles, bars, pin tool. Wide-eyed and curious. Say cheese!
